Are California Ripe Olives high in calories and cholesterol?
Not at all. Since California Ripe Olives are fruits, they have no cholesterol at all. Each large olive has only 6 calories. That’s a lot of flavor per calorie.

What about fat content?
California Ripe Olives contain 2 grams of fat per serving, which makes them a low fat food, according to FDA definitions. More importantly, they contain monounsaturated fats, also known as “good fat”.

Why are monounsaturated fats sometimes called “good fats”?
Our brains and bodies need a certain amount of fats to function properly. However, studies have linked consumption of saturated fats and trans fats to heart diseases and other health problems. Monounsaturated fats satisfy our bodies need for fat, without posing that same risk to our systems.

In what part of California are Black Ripe Olives grown?
California Ripe Olives are grown on family farms in the inland valleys of California from San Diego Country to north of Sacramento. Our biggest growing regions are Tulare County in the San Joaquin Valley, and Glenn and Tehama Counties in the northern Sacramento Valley.

Is the California Olive Committee made up of corporate farmers and big businesses?
Quite the opposite. The California Olive Committee is comprised of two family-owned canning facilities and about a thousand growers whose farms come in all sizes-ranging from 5-1000 acres. Many of them have been growing olives for multiple generations on these family farms. They follow strict environmental codes and consider themselves stewards of our land.

Do I need to do anything to California Ripe Olives before I cook with them?
Just drain off the juices and they’re good to go.

What if I don’t use up the whole can?
Just store them in the refrigerator in their original brine or in a solution of 1 cup of water to 1/2 tsp. salt. Top the container loosely with plastic wrap, rather than sealing airtight.

How long do California Ripe Olives keep after the can is opened?
Once a can of California Ripe Olives is opened, we recommend eating the properly stored contents within 10 days time. Of course, you’ll have to keep them hidden if you want to test this out for yourself.

Where can I buy California Ripe Olives?
