Slim Down Deliciously.

You don't have to sacrifice flavors to slim down your meals. Really, I'm not just saying it to make you feel better about working on that beach-ready body. Not all cooking methods are created equal. Choose the right ones and you'll chow down on healthier food (and your taste buds will thank you).

  • Pan sear for a golden brown. Using just a little bit of oil and a whole lot of heat, you can create that deep brown flavorful crust on fish, chicken and meats that you love so much in restaurants. First pour a small amount of oil into your pan. Then heat the pan on high until it just begins to smoke slightly. Place your chicken, fish or meat into the pan, sliding it away from you to make sure it doesn't splatter. Turn heat down to medium and cook until browning occurs. This Dijon Sautéed Chicken will get you started.

  • Get out that grill. Cooking over a grill is a healthy and delicious way to enjoy meats, veggies and even some fruits. Add extra flavor by cooking over wood or mesquite. Season with dry rubs or herbed marinades, dabbing excess oil off prior to cooking. Grilled Romesco Steak is sure to get you going.

  • Spice up the steam heat. If you think unseasoned water is the only liquid that produces steam, think again. These days professional chefs take cues from all over the world with delicious results. Try steaming fish in a ginger infused tea. Carrots are delicious in an orange soy broth. Take it from the pros: try steaming in broths, juices and teas and you'll infuse your food with a whole lot of flavor without putting on the pounds.

  • Add big flavor with ripe olives. Remember to season with bold ingredients like California Ripe Olives, capers, roasted peppers and garlic so that a little goes a long way. If you can fill up on smaller portions of well flavored food, you may be less likely to feel like you need to treat yourself to between meal snacks. Besides, if you are trying to eat less, shouldn't every bite taste as good as it can be?
